Influence of Rotor Eccentricity on Vibration Characteristics of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Abstract: MemberThis paper describes the influence of rotor eccentricity on the vibration characteristics of a concentrated winding interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) by using a finite element method (FEM) and several measurements. The rotor eccentricity primarily caused an increase in radial electromagnetic force. In addition, an IPMSM with rotor eccentricity has higher vibration acceleration than an IPMSM without rotor eccentricity.

“…2. It can be seen from the figure that when the carrier wave intersects with the modulation wave, the switching action time and switching on-off state of the bridge arm switching device of the inverter are determined by the intersection, and a series of positive and negative rectangular pulse voltage waveforms with different widths are obtained (Takahata et al, 2019). The pulse sequence is characterized by an equal amplitude and unequal width, and its width changes according to the sinusoidal law.…”

“…The results showed that these indexes were grossly affected. Takahata and Wakui [25] employed the finite element method (FEM) to investigate the effect of rotor eccentricity on interior permanent magnet motor (IPMSM), it was concluded that IPMSM with rotor eccentricity caused an increase in radial electromotive force and higher vibration acceleration when compared with the healthy machine. The FEM is mostly used for modelling or validating other results.…”

“…In general, an eccentricity ratio less than 10% is considered acceptable [1]. With a further increase of the eccentricity ratio, however, the unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP) also increases [2], resulting in the deterioration of the noise and vibration performance [3], [4]. Moreover, a severe eccentricity can even cause a fatal rotor-to-stator rub.…”
