Influence of Resveratrol on the Immune Response

Abstract: Resveratrol is the most well-known polyphenolic stilbenoid, present in grapes, mulberries, peanuts, rhubarb, and in several other plants. Resveratrol can play a beneficial role in the prevention and in the progression of chronic diseases related to inflammation such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, and cancers among other conditions. Moreover, resveratrol regulates immunity by interfering with immune cell regulation, proinflammatory cytokines’ synthesis, and gene expression. At… Show more

“…Cutaneous Functions e benefits of resveratrol for health have been demonstrated in multiple systems and/or organs, including cardiovascular system, diabetes, and immune as well as the neural system [71][72][73][74][75][76]. A large body of evidence, summarized here, has also indicated the benefits of resveratrol for the skin (Table 1) .…”

“…An important substrate of SIRT-1 is p65 of NF-κB (RelA) [122], the key transcription factor involved in regulation of inflammatory cytokines [123]. SIRT-1 activation by RSV determines the inhibition of RelA acetylation, which in turn decreases NF-κB expression [124]. In addition, RSV inhibits p300 expression and promotes the IκB-α degradation [125].…”

“…In mammals, DR induces the SIRT1, the closest homolog of C. elegans sir-2.1 and Drosophila dSir2, and promotes cell survival [82]. In animal models, stimulation of SIRT1 (either with agonists or NAD+ precursors) caused extension of the lifespan and protected against many aging-related diseases, including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders and cancer [83][84][85][86][87][88][89]. In addition, DR induced an increase in physical activity was abolished in SIRT knockout mice [90].…”
