Influence of Process Parameters on Mechanical Properties of Nanoparticulate Coatings

D… Show more

“…All samples were then compressed force‐controlled until the determined maximal force was reached. For each sample, 80 measuring points were applied with a compression rate of 2.8 mN s −1 during loading and unloading (for more details and complete procedure, see Barth et al, Fischer‐Cripps and Bockholt). With the resulting force‐displacement‐diagrams, the different types of deformation work (plastic ( W pl ), elastic ( W el ), and total ( W tot ) deformation work with W tot = W el + W pl ) and their relations was calculated.…”

“…= 150 nm). For statistic reasons, the measurement was repeated 40 times per sample to approach a constant value for the standard deviation of the measurement, as it was already established in other preliminary works [4,21,22]. The mean maximal force was related to the theoretical contact area of the tip to calculate the hardness.…”

“…Since process and formulation parameters have a strong influence on product properties, intensive research on the underlying interrelations has been conducted previously in our group [3][4][5][6][7]. A number of dependencies between the disperse phase in the formulation and the coating properties were identified regarding the effect of particle size distribution, solids content as well as type of particle synthesis [4,6,7].…”
