Influence of process parameters and scalability of the semi‐batch production of functionalized silver nanoparticles

Abstract: The present work investigated in detail the effects of stirring rate, temperature, and the feed flow rate of the reducing agent on the properties of functionalized silver nanoparticles produced in a semi‐batch reactor. In addition, a specific formulation was tested in chemical reactors with different volumes to demonstrate the scalability of the process. The colloids were characterized using UV‐Vis spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and zeta potential. The scale up of the p… Show more

“…In chemical engineering applications, it quantifies concentration with calibration curves and Beer‐Lambert's equation, or evaluates shifts in the spectra from nanoparticles colloids to estimate the size distribution and the form of the particles . UV‐vis spectroscopy is one of the most reliable techniques for nanoparticle colloidal analysis even at the industrial scale …”

“…In a previous work, it was demonstrated that 5 ppm of AgNp was enough to produce ABS/PC blend nanocomposites with very good antibacterial properties against S. aureus , E. coli , and Klebsiella pneumoniae . In the present study, bionanocomposite membranes with excellent antibacterial activity against S. aureus were produced by adding only 13 ppm of AgNp.…”

“…Hereafter, 10.0 mL of a sodium borohydride solution (reducing agent, purchased from Cinética, Jandira, Brazil, purity >98%) was fed into the reaction media with a volumetric flow of 1.0 mL min −1 . After the feeding of the reducing agent solution, the system was maintained at the same operational conditions (1000 rpm and 20 °C) for 10 min to guarantee the consumption of the chemical reagents . The sodium citrate concentration selected to be used in the experimental runs was 15.0 mmol L −1 .…”
