Influence of Preharvest Bagging on Maturity Indices and Postharvest Quality of Cherry Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme)

Abstract: The production of cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme) is negatively affected by harsh environmental conditions such as extremely high and low temperatures, wind and hail damage, and pest and disease infestation. These factors delay maturity and cause uneven ripening, fruit abrasion, and blemishes, which consequently result in poor fruit quality and reduced shelf life. Preharvest bagging is an environmentally friendly alternative technique for enhancement of fruit quality and hence alleviates … Show more

“…In order to greatly maintain the quality of fresh-cut fruits, a variety of studies have focused on the use of cold storage, dipping with preservative solutions, and controlled atmospheres. The effectiveness of different physical and chemical treatments depends on fruit varieties, which also relies on the cultivars or preharvest quality and maturity (Buthelezi, 2023). As a result, appropriate treatments and storage condition, or combined strategies to ensure the quality maintenance of fresh-cut nectarines have been desired.…”
