Influence of Old Concrete Age, Interface Roughness and Freeze-Thawing Attack on New-to-Old Concrete Structure

Abstract: The bonding surface structure generated by the repair of concrete structures has been paid more attention as a weak point. The effects of old concrete age, interface roughness, and freeze-thawing (F-T) attack on adhesive interface are comprehensively investigated. In this study, six kinds of interface roughness and five different old concrete age are designed. The interfacial bonding property is mainly evaluated by splitting tensile strength (fts). Fractal analysis was used to characterize the interface roughn… Show more

“…It first increased and then decreased with the decrease of WUHPC strength. Taking the interval time of 0 h as an example, the splitting tensile strengths of U1, U2, and U3 were 1.66 MPa, 1.98 MPa, and 1.82 MPa, respectively, which were close to the results by Fan [ 44 ]. Therefore, when the interval time was 0 h, the bond performance between WUHPC and NC was the best.…”

“…To support this, the VL values proposed in Table 13 can be considered. With this test, it is possible to obtain important information on the macro and micro roughness of the aggregates [ 77 ]. It depends on the internal texture of the type of rock, and this can certainly be reflected in the observed resistance values [ 78 ].…”

“…Tayeh [35], Mansour [36], and Fan [37] proposed the split test to examine the UHPC-NC interface bonding strength. As an indirect test method, the split test can overcome the shortcomings of the pull-off test.…”
