Influence of Nature Support on Methane and CO2 Conversion in a Dry Reforming Reaction over Nickel-Supported Catalysts

Abstract: A promising method to reduce global warming has been methane reforming with CO2, as it combines two greenhouse gases to obtain useful products. In this study, Ni-supported catalysts were synthesized using the wet impregnation method to obtain 5%Ni/Al2O3(SA-5239), 5%Ni/Al2O3(SA-6175), 5%Ni/SiO2, 5%Ni/MCM41, and 5%Ni/SBA15. The catalysts were tested in dry reforming of methane at 700 °C, 1 atm, and a space velocity of 39,000 mL/gcat h, to study the interaction of Ni with the supports, and evaluation was based on… Show more

“…CeO 2 impregnated with yttrium increases ionic conductivity with Ce and Y bonded together, suggesting the possible presence of the CeO 2 -Y 2 O 3 phase, which favors NiO dispersion and limits the sintering [ 28 ]. Y 2 O 3 as a basic carrier allows Ni catalyst to be easily reduced and have a better activity [ 29 ]. Yttrium enhances smaller nickel crystallites, thereby improving the dispersion of active sites.…”

“…Yttrium enhances smaller nickel crystallites, thereby improving the dispersion of active sites. The promotion with 0.09Y led to better activity which was linked to the formation of a solid solution of ZrO 2 -Y 2 O 3 , thereby enhancing the reduction of bulk NiO [ 29 ]. In addition, a number of oxygen vacancies and mobility can be enhanced by doping cerium with yttrium [ 39 ].…”

“…4,14–16 It was well found that the nature of support has a great influence on the catalysts utilized in the DRM reaction. 17 El Hassan et al 18 proved high NiO nanoparticle dispersion inside SBA-15 pores through the impregnation method with two solvents. Tannous et al 19 reported the SBA-16 pore structure and its effect on catalytic activity and stability.…”

“…Catalytic activity and stability to carbonization depend on many factors, such as type of active metal, preparation method, nature of precursors, calcination temperature, reduction pretreatment and support nature [ 22 ]. Noble-metal catalysts provide high catalytic activity and stability to coke formation [ 23 ].…”
