Influence of naringin on the myocardial ultrastructure and NF-B expression in rats with diabetic cardiomyopathy

Abstract: We investigated the effects of naringin on myocardial nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) expression in rats with diabetic cardiomyopathy (DC), and its protective effect on DC. Wistar rats were randomly assigned into a normal control group, DC group and naringin intervention group. The DC rat model was established using high-sugar, high-fat feeding and streptozotocin (STZ) injection. The ultrastructural changes in the myocardial tissues were observed under electron microscopy; NF-κB expression in the myocardia was … Show more

“…Naringin reduces myocardial damage by inhibiting the inflammatory reactions mediated by NF-κB and retards the progression of diabetic cardiopathy (Wu et al, 2013). Naringin also protects against high glucose-induced human endothelial cell injury through its antioxidant properties by downregulating CX3CL1 protein and improving mitochondrial function (Li et al, 2017).Naringin decreases malondialdehyde level, the marker of lipid peroxidation, reduction in protein glycation, and activates GSH synthesis in L6 myoblast cell (Dhanya et al, 2015).…”

“…20 NRG is known for its physiological and pharmacological properties including the antihypercholesterolemic, 21 23 cardioprotection, 24,25 anti-inflammatory, 21,26 28 antioxidant, 29 31 and antiapoptotic effects. 32 34 In addition, most studies found that the NRG could normalize plasma glucose, insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin, and some important enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism in diabetic animals. They also reported that naringin treatment stimulates insulin secretion from remnant pancreatic β-cells and reduces blood glucose levels in diabetic animals.…”
