Influence of Molar Ratio of P-Tert-Octyl Phenol and Formaldehyde on Structure of the Resin

Abstract: Phenolic resins with different molecular weight were synthesized by the adjustment of phenolic aldehyde, with p-tert-octyl phenol and formaldehyde as materials. Softening point, gel permeation chromatography and 1 H NMR Spectroscopy were used to characterize its structure. With the same molar ratio of p-tert-octyl phenol and formaldehyde, a resin with the softening point of 93.1˚C, the mean molecular weight of 1050 and relatively concentrated distribution of molecular weight was made.
