Influence of Micro Threads Alteration on Osseointegration and Primary Stability of Implants: An FEA and In Vivo Analysis in Rabbits

Abstract: The effect of micro threads was prominent in the femur suggesting that micro threads promote bone formation. The stress distribution supported by the micro threads was especially effective in the cancellous bone.

“…Improved conditions for osseointegration were provided by the microthreaded implant which has significantly higher degree of bone‐implant contact within the marginal portion of the implants . The implants with only macrothreads mainly have an impact on the primary stability whereas the addition of the pitch shortened microthreads in between the macrothreads would improve both primary and biological stability which can take up axial load, by transforming shear stress into compressive stress at the interface when vertically loaded . Various thread shape in dental implant designs include V‐shaped thread, Power thread, Power acme thread, Buttress threads, Reverse buttress threads, Crestal vertical slot thread, Rounded Power thread, and Spiralock thread.…”
