“…When 15% MCA was added to R‐PET, the LOI of 15‐MCA/R‐PET composite was 26.4%, and the flame retardant reached UL94 3.2 mmV2 grade. This enhancement might be ascribed to MCA was decomposed by heat to produce non‐flammable gases 35 such as NH 3 , N 2 , NO 2 , CO 2 , and water vapor, which could dilute oxygen and flammable gases produced in the combustion process, 16 thus improved the flame retardant of R‐PET. When 15% ADP was added to R‐PET, the LOI of 15‐ADP/R‐PET composite was 30.2%, and the flame retardant reached UL94 3.2 mm V0 level.…”

“…It can be seen from Table 5 that when MCA was added to the 15‐ADP/R‐PET composite, the UL94 rating and LOI of MCA/ADP/R‐PET composite gradually increased, while the tensile strength, flexural strength and notched impact strength gradually decreased with the increased of MCA addition amount. The results was due to the non‐flammable gases such as NH 3 , NO 2 , CO 2 , and water vapor generated by the thermal decomposition of MCA dilute the oxygen and combustible gases, which improved the flame retardant of the composite in the gas phase, 16 so the overall flame retardant of the composite was improved. However, the compatibility between MCA and R‐PET was not good, and the effect of force transfer inside the material was poor, so that the mechanical properties of the composites decline 44 .…”
