The study, was carried out during March – June 2022 at Department of Horticulture, Naini Agricultural Institute, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The experiment was carried out to see the performance of the most suitable soil media for growth and establishment of Papaya seedlings. There were nine treatments including control viz, M0 Control (Garden soil), M1(Soil + FYM), M2 (Soil+FYM+biocapsules), M3 (Soil+FYM+Neemcake), M4 (Soil + FYM + Neemcake + biocapsules), M5 (Soil +FYM + Vermicompost), M6 (Soil + Sand + Vermicompost + biocapsules), M7 (Soil + FYM + Sand) M8 (Soil+FYM+Sand+Biocapsules) replicated three times with 10 seeds per replication. Growth medium significantly affected the growth, biomass, and root morphological indexes of papaya seedlings. The results reveal that the treatment M6 (Soil+Sand+Vermicompost+biocapsules) was the most suitable treatment over all the other treatments in relation to germination and growth parameters.

This research was performed on March-May 2021 to evaluate the effects of different growth media on health and growth characteristics of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) seedlings. The experiment was laid in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications. The different nutrient media used were FYM, Poultry Manure, Vermicompost and Cocopeat each with 1:1 mix with soil. The other nutrient medium being soil only as a control treatment. Seeds of Manisha variety were sown on the tray under the high-tech greenhouse nursery with respective treatments. Data entry and arrangement of collected data was done using MS Excel and further analysis was done using R-studio. At 14 days after sowing, FYM (93.33%) and Cocopeat (94.17%) had the highest germination percentage while control (70%) had the lowest percentage of germinated seedlings. Other parameters as seedling height (10.78 cm), plant stand (90.83%) and leaf number (10.75) were found higher in cocopeat +soil (1:1) treatment. Disease incidence (33.4%), however, was found higher in poultry manure. From this experiment, Cocopeat +soil (1:1) mix proved to be the best medium for raising tomato seedlings as disease incidence was low, germination percentage was higher including final plant stand, seedling height and leaf number as compared to other nutrient media.

Role of nanosilicab to boost the activities of metabolites in Triticum aestivum facing drought stress

Drought stress is a threat to agriculture which is decreasing the yield of crops and creating a considerable loss. This research focused on the part played by silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs), biofertilizers, and nanosilicab on Triticum aestivum under control and drought stress. Nanosilicab enhanced the germination percentage, germination index, and germination vigor index by 23.07%, 14.49% and, 93.10% under control and 14.42%, 10.52%, and 46.15% under drought. In the pot experiment, the soil was treated with 150 mg/kg SiO2 NPs, 1% biofertilizer and, 1% nanosilicab before sowing. Nanosilicab increased shoot length and root length by 9.39%, 10.76%, 22.41%, 18.76%, 30.58%, and, 21.56% under control and drought stress conditions. It also increased photosynthetic pigments, osmolytes content, relative water content, membrane stability index, phenol, and flavonoid content. The increase in antioxidant activity was significantly high by the application of nanosilicab i.e. the augmentation in catalase, peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase was 68.65%, 83.69% and, 85.99% respectively. It also increased the indole acetic acid and cytokinin to 22.28% and 14.79% in comparison to control. The improvement in hundred grain weight and grains per spike by the use of nanosilicab was 36.25%, 38.76%, 27.47%, and 22.59% as compared to control. The positive interaction of nanosilicab with the roots of plants in the rhizosphere improved the growth of plants significantly and a potential candidate for application on crops. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of nanosilicab and its role in drought amelioration.
