Influence of Inverter Output Filter on Maximum Torque and Speed of PMSM Drives

Abstract: Abstract-The paper deals with the maximum torque and speed of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives when the inverter output voltage is filtered by an LC filter with a cut-off frequency well below the switching frequency. According to steady-state analysis, the filter affects the performance of the motor drive especially at high speeds. The stator current is not equal to the inverter current, and due to the inverter current and inverter voltage limits, the torque-maximizing stator current locus diff… Show more

“…In general, current/voltage sensors and inverters are typically integrated inside commercial closed-form drives. Additional inverter hardware modification is necessary if external sensors are selected for an FOC drive with an LC filter [17,18]. In contrast, sensorless observer-based estimation is preferred because only the inverter inside the current sensors is used for filter state estimation.…”

“…A robust strategy for regulating the grid current entering a distribution network from a three-phase inverter system connected via an LCL filter was proposed in Twining and Holmes (2003). Szczupak and Pacas (2006), Salomaki et al (2006Salomaki et al ( , 2007, Pozo-Palma and Pacas (2014) and Salomaki and Luomi (2015) all proposed an LC filter that connects between the inverter and the motor. Also, they designed a full-order observer to estimate some parameters.…”

“…The HLCF effectively reduces dv/dt and helps attenuate the common-mode noise. Information on the influence of the inverter output filters according to the PWM technique or at maximum torque and speed can be found in [10]. The interaction between the filter and switches is discussed in [11].…”
