Influence of Insulation on Thermal Behavior of Overhead Line Conductors

Abstract: To provide the accurate thermal rating of overhead power lines is required to consider the conductor temperature depending on a variety of weather factors. New types of conductors, such as overhead insulation-covered conductors are widely used in electrical networks. Wellknown IEEE 738 and CIGRE standards calculate the bare overhead conductors only and are not applicable for thermal rating of overhead insulation-covered conductors. Numerical methods are able to calculate the insulated conductors, but have many… Show more

“…Worse, the specialized papers [4][5][6] use same formulas even in irrelevant cases. Many papers just ignore the skin effect phenomenon [7][8][9][10][11].We can see this case because the analytical methods for the skin effect calculation have the high computational complexity. For example, the case of the solid cylindrical conductor requires the calculation of the Bessel function with a complex argument [1][2][3].…”
