“…The glucocorticoid and beta2 agonist therapies are effective at controlling airway inflammation, reducing asthma symptoms, decreasing airway hyper-responsiveness and reducing the frequency and severity of exacerbations as well as asthma mortality. Despite their undoubted effectiveness and safety, there is still no consensus about the resulting metabolic derangements, including the development of dyslipidaemia, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, diabetes, central adiposity and skeletal muscle wasting [5][6][7].Both glucocorticoids and beta2 agonists have the potential to influence glucose, lipid and protein metabolism [8][9][10].Budesonide is the most widely used glucocorticoid for the treatment of asthmatic diseases [11]. “…In this study, De Leonibus et al. analyzed growth patterns from prepuberty to the attainment of final height. The Authors investigated 113 asthmatic children with mild‐to‐moderate asthma under exclusive ICs treatment [budesonide (n = 36) vs. fluticasone (n = 43) vs. mometasone (n = 34)] compared to 66 healthy age‐matched controls.…”

“…Zum anderen bekommen viele Asthmatiker Glukokortikoide als Dauertherapie, die Einfluss auf die Größe der Kinder haben und die Fetteinlagerung fördern können (32). Auch die Zielgröße wird abhängig von Dauer, Dosis und Art der Glukokortikoide beeinflusst (33). Somit kann sich indirekt der BMI verändern.…”
