“…26,56 The low HBV viral load among those HBsAg positive individuals is probably caused by the HDV coinfection that may spontaneously suppress HBV. 47,[54][55][56][57][58] This study is a continuation of two previous studies 2,15 to define the most important aspects of HBV infection epidemiology in this region described as highly endemic. A pattern is outlined in which pockets of chronic HBV carriers are identified where potential reservoirs are concentrated.…”

“…45,46 Genotype F has frequently been described in the Amazon, 17,26,[47][48][49] particularly among native populations. 4 Genotype D was found in an isolate from an individual who was not native to the community studied and is similar to genotypes found in the Mediterranean and East Africa.…”

“…Our results may be influenced by the large number of individuals co-infected with HDV at 65.1% (56/86), which spontaneously suppresses HBV [32][33] , as well as problems in handling the samples during field work in precarious places such as the rural Amazon.…”

“…The current Pegylated interferon in advanced delta hepatitis 561 study addresses this issue and compares the efficacy and safety of peg-IFNα 2a-based treatment in CDH-induced advanced liver disease versus in patients with non-advanced disease, through reanalysis of the effective arms of the recently published Hep-Net-International Delta Hepatitis Intervention Trial (HIDIT)-1 Study (11). Further, patients who participated in the study had hepatitis D virus (HDV) genotype I and hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotype D, both of which may be regarded as less favorable viral parameters with regard to treatment response (21,22).…”
