“…In recent years, cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome (CBMN Cyt) assay has evolved into a comprehensive method for measuring chromosome breakage, DNA misrepair, chromosome loss, nondisjunction, necrosis, apoptosis, and cytostasis [ 21 ]. Using CBMN cytome assay, our study shows that BD exposure could induce chromosomal damage (MNi and NPBs) in BD-exposed workers, which was consistent with two other studies in China [ 10 , 16 ]. However, several studies have yielded negative results [ 6 9 ].…”

“…Thus, the polymorphisms of metabolic genes ( CYP2E1 , GST s, and mEH ) involved in BD metabolism were included in several studies to understand their relationship with BD genotoxicity. Epidemiological studies on BD-exposed workers indicated that many polymorphic loci of metabolic genes can impact the chromosomal damage induced by BD exposure [ 13 16 ]. In 2009, using cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus (CBMN) cytome assay, we found that BD-exposed workers exhibited increased frequencies of micronuclei (MNi) and nucleoplasmic bridges (NPBs) when compared to subjects in the control group.…”

“…BD-exposed workers who possessed the GSTT1 null genotypes showed significantly higher frequencies of chromosomal aberrations than the appropriate controls. Tan concluded that BD-exposed workers carrying the GSTM1 (−) genotype had a higher MN frequency than those carrying GSTM1 (+); no difference was found between the GSTT1 genotype and MN frequency [28].…”

“…Several reports have documented chromosome damage in workers exposed to BD [1,27]. Tan considered that BD exposure would increase the frequency of MN [28]; however, these results were not supported by findings of a lack of increased genetic damage in 1,3-butadiene-exposed workers in studies conducted by Zhang [29]. Our results showed that BD exposed workers had a significantly higher MN frequency than controls, and this was especially true for those exposed to higher cumulative BD levels, which was consistent with previous research.…”

“…The Xia group in the School of Public Health of Fudan University used the cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay to examine chromosomal damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) of 166 workers in a polybutadiene latex chemical industrial plant in Ningbo, China [ 163 ]. These workers were exposed to extremely high levels of BD with the range varying from 0.05 to 1,985.99 mg/m 3 (the median was 4.48 mg/m 3 ).…”
