Influence of graded levels of nitrogen and potassium on physiological growth parameters and flower yield of garland chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium L.)

Abstract: An investigation was carried out at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh during the year 2015-16 to evaluate the influence of graded levels of nitrogen and potassium on physiological growth parameters and flower yield of garland chrysanthemum. The study has revealed that significantly highest number of leaves per plant (98.00), leaf area per plant (988.00 cm 2), LAI (0.618), LAD (268.04), CGR, AGR, RGR, NAR, Chlorophylla, b and total chloro… Show more

“…However, high K 2 SO 4 , as opposed to high nitrogen and phosphorus, enhanced chrysanthemum growth throughout the seedling growth stage (Table 2). Subsequent research validated our findings, showing that chrysanthemum growth rates for plant height, number of primary branches, number of secondary branches, and number of leaves were dramatically accelerated at 200 kg•ha −1 and 150 kg•ha −1 of nitrogen and potassium, respectively [23]. Although potassium is essential for the stability of chlorophyll production in a range of physiological and biochemical processes [8], it also plays an important role in cell division and cellular differentiation in the plant system, causing stunted development when deficient [23].…”

“…Subsequent research validated our findings, showing that chrysanthemum growth rates for plant height, number of primary branches, number of secondary branches, and number of leaves were dramatically accelerated at 200 kg•ha −1 and 150 kg•ha −1 of nitrogen and potassium, respectively [23]. Although potassium is essential for the stability of chlorophyll production in a range of physiological and biochemical processes [8], it also plays an important role in cell division and cellular differentiation in the plant system, causing stunted development when deficient [23]. Hence, we hypothesize that the enhanced plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, and flower diameter at 450 kg•ha −1 potassium sulfate might be due to an increase in cellular differentiation in the chrysanthemum cultivar Boju.…”

“…Its stems can be up to 70 cm, while leaves are alternate with long, pinnate split, flowers yellow or white plus some wild Chrysanthemum -like features (Sulas et al 1999 ; Basta et al 2007 ). While its flowers are usually used for flower decoration in social and religious activities, they differ from those ordinary chrysanthemums in several manners (Teja et al 2019 ). Glebionis coronaria has many beneficial effects, including anti-hypercholesterolemia, anti-fungal, anti-hyperglycemia, and anti-aging (Abd-Alla et al 2014 ; Park et al 2019 ).…”
