Influence of fillers content on the viscosity of unsaturated polyester resin/calcium carbonate blends

Abstract: The objective of this experimental work was to study the rheological behavior of blends composed of unsaturated polyester resin and calcium carbonate. The influence of calcium carbonate content on the viscosity of the resin has been first investigated for calcium carbonate contents ranging from 0 to 60 wt%. Furthermore, the influences of shear rate and standing time have also been analyzed for different resin/fillers blends. The experimental results show a complex rheological behavior, and allow us to better c… Show more

“…Effect of CaCO 3 on the viscosity of resin glue and on the decomposition of NH 4 HCO 3 CaCO 3 affected the viscosity of resin glue. The maximum content of CaCO 3 was suggested to be controlled within 65.00 phr for UPR [16]. In this study, the content of CaCO 3 was controlled no more than 35.00 phr, considering the motion and the distribution of bubbles (which were caused by decomposition of NH 4 HCO 3 ) in resin glue.…”

“…Surface tension is measured by a drop shape analyzer (DSA100, Kruss, Germany), the viscosity is measured by a viscometer (AR2000ex, USA), and the permittivity is measured at 20 Hz by an impedance analyzer (Agilent E4990A, USA). The viscosities are adjusted by adding columnar calcium carbonate powder with a length of 1 μm to the epoxy resin. , Three different viscosities are formed by mixing in mass ratios of 1:1, 1:1.5, and 1:2, respectively. These liquid suspensions are labeled as LS 1–3.…”

“…The best mechanical values were observed under the presence of 10% filler in polyester based films. Kiehl et al [27] studied the rheological behavior of unsaturated resin and calcite compounds. They used 0-60% nanoparticles as fillers in their studies.…”
