Influence of feed direction on finishing milling cylindrical surfaces in H13 hardened steel

Abstract: CNC milling of curved surfaces is a common task in the manufacture of molds and dies of products used in various industrial sectors. Notably, in recent years, the use of hard milling has helped manufacturers to obtain these parts with shorter lead times, since the part is machined in a single setup without the problems caused by part distortions from the tempering process. In this work, cylindrical surfaces were machined in AISI H13 steel tempered and annealed to 52 HRC using hard milling and high speed millin… Show more

“…According to ISO 2685, the length-to-diameter ratio should be less than 10. [48][49][50] Before the actual machining process, the cylindrical bars were positioned and a further 1 mm depth of cut from the outside work surface was removed and cleaned. The surface finish was measured after each test The nominal chemical compositions of the selected work material (in weight percent) are C 0.42, Si 0.41, Mn 0.52, P 0.008, S 0.02, Cr 0.75, Ni 1.41, Mo 0.20, and Fe balance.…”
