Abstract:Introduction. Chronic alcohol consumption leads to oxidative-nitrosative liver injury, which induces the release of cytokines and growth factors, leading to activation of hepatic stellate cells and fibrosis. Modern studies have revealed a close connection between AMP-activated protein kinase and fibrogenesis.
