Influence of Different Surface Texture Parameters on the Contact Performance of Piston Ring‐Sleeve Friction Pair of Hydraulic Cylinders

Abstract: The surface texture, a major way to decrease friction and wear of the cylinder-piston ring friction pair, was conducted on cylinder-piston ring friction pair specimen using the orthogonal experimental design method to investigate the effect of different texture parameters (size, depth, shape, and surface density) of the friction and wear characteristics. Through simulation analysis, the texture parameters that affect the friction and wear characteristics are obtained. Using the evaluation method of friction co… Show more

“…In boundary and mixed lubrication regimes, the surfaces of the friction pair material can be modified by surface texture [4,5], chemical grafting [6,7], ion sputtering [8,9], and other surface modification technologies [10] in order to improve the anti-friction and antiwear abilities of the substrates and the adsorption effect of the lubricant. The textured surface of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) reduces the actual contact area between friction pairs, thereby improving the tribological properties of the material surface [11].…”

“…Mold gap and stamping speed can be controlled via conventional parameter adjustment. The friction coefficient may be accurately controlled by designers thanks to surface treatment technologies, [22][23][24] and the methods used in this work. Meanwhile, these technologies need further study and discussion.…”

“…Common issues associated with hydraulic cylinders encompass excessive friction, internal leakage, and external leakage. These problems can be attributed to factors such as wear and tear on the reciprocating seal [1], temperature fluctuations [2], alterations in the properties of the working fluid [3], contaminants, surface texture [4], etc. According to statistics, hydraulic cylinder leakage faults make up over 50% of all crane faults [5].…”
