Influence of Different Load Conditions on Lower Extremity Biomechanics during the Lunge Squat in Novice Men

Abstract: Objective: The lunge squat is one of the exercises to strengthen the lower limbs, however, there is little evidence of the effects of different equipment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical effects of different types of equipment and loads on the lunge squat’s effect on the lower limbs. Methods: Fourteen male fitness novices participated in the experiment. Kinematics and kinetics in the sagittal plane using dumbbells, barbells, and weighted vests were measured using OpenSim. Two-way… Show more

“…As a result of this study, the characteristics of plantar pressure profiles and the footprints of elite badminton players can be used in the development and design of badminton boots or related sports orthotic insoles, which are expected to cushion the uneven distribution of plantar loads, improve shoe comfortability, and reduce the risk of sports-related injuries suffered by badminton players. With respect to the imbalance of centers of gravity in elite badminton players, the lunge squat exercises have been considered to be effective rehabilitation training for improving static and dynamic joint balance [ 62 ].…”

“…The lunge can be a helpful exercise for rehabilitating subjects with low back pain. Dumbbells seem suitable for beginners performing the lunge exercise due to the low joint impact and increased stability [ 12 ]. In addition, the muscle activity generated in our study was between 6.9 and 37.2% MVIC.…”

“…One of the exercises in which weight distribution can be modified with dumbbells is the lunge [ 11 , 12 ]. The lunge is a unilateral multi-joint leg exercise that involves knee and hip extensor muscles.…”

“…The model is scaled to meet anthropometry characteristics so that the root mean square error between the marked experimental point and the virtual marked point is less than 0.02 m, and the maximum error is less than 0.04 m ( Lu et al, 2022b ; Lu et al, 2022c ; Gao et al, 2022 ). The inverse kinematics algorithm calculates the joint angle, and the residual reduction algorithm reduces the kinetics inconsistency between kinematics and ground reaction force.…”
