Influence of different abstractions on the performance analysis of distributed hard real-time systems

Abstract: System level performance analysis plays a fundamental role in the design process of hard real-time embedded systems. Several different approaches have been presented so far to address the problem of accurate performance analysis of distributed embedded systems in early design stages. The existing formal analysis methods are based on essentially different concepts of abstraction. However, the influence of these different models on the accuracy of the system analysis is widely unknown, as a direct comparison of … Show more

“…The e ect of the composition of these two factors cannot be inferred from the conclusion of [22]. Secondly, a manual construction of the inputs for various tools is impractical for evaluating analyzers on more complex benchmarks than the ones of [22] [23]. We aim to provide a tool chain which automates the translation of a system speci cation into the input of several tools, so that a system can be speci ed once in RTSpec and analyzed with multiple tools.…”

“…We make use of the example depicted in Figure 1, a benchmark taken from [15], to illustrate the differences between the various temporal analysis approaches. The left side of the figure shows the task graph of a streaming application, with tasks and being executed on a shared processor using a static priority preemptive scheduler and task having a higher priority ( 2 ) than task ( 1 ).…”

“…Despite the promising results of these approaches several pitfalls and accuracy issues have appeared with the currently available tools discussed in [243]. The introduced results show that these analysis methods encounter inaccuracies especially in the presence of control and data dependencies in the application task execution.…”
