Influence of corneal biomechanical properties on surgically induced astigmatism in cataract surgery

Abstract: In addition to the well-known influence of incision size on SIA, CH also modulates optical changes. The biomechanical features of the cornea should be taken into account preoperatively to better predict the refractive outcomes of cataract surgery.

“…However, at 3 months, the incidence of all of these aberrations decreased, whereas the total RMS and HORMS increased significantly relative to the preoperative values. fractive results (5) . Residual ametropia, especially astigmatism, is among the main causes (64%) of dissatisfaction after implantation of a multifocal IOL (9) .…”

“…Denoyer et al published the first such unique study and observed positive correlations among the preoperative CH, CRF, and SIA in the first month (5) . This correlation is represented by the following formula: SIA (D)= 2.08 + 0.24 × Incision Size (mm)-0.19 × CH (mmHg).…”

“…The biomechanical properties of the cornea also affect the SIA [19,20]. Denoyer et al [20] demonstrated that the incision width and preoperative corneal hysteresis changed the SIA in corneal incision cataract surgery.…”

“…The biomechanical properties of the cornea also affect the SIA [19,20]. Denoyer et al [20] demonstrated that the incision width and preoperative corneal hysteresis changed the SIA in corneal incision cataract surgery. In cataract surgery together with LRI, paired incision for astigmatism correction did not change the biomechanical properties [19].…”
