Influence of constituents on thermal properties of polymethacrylate derivatives–clay materials

Abstract: In this study, the solution‐mixing method was used to prepare polymethacrylate derivatives' (PaMAs) nanocomposites with kaolinite. It was observed that the resultant materials could include exfoliated, intercalated, and undispersed kaolinite depending on their XRD patterns. TEM micrographs also revealed that platy and tube structures of kaolinite and their stacked form would disperse in the PaMAs. Therefore, they were called PaMAs–kaolinite materials with mixed morphology. The effects caused by different types… Show more

“…Considering the studies on the nanocomposites with sepiolite, it is seen that polyurethane, 12 poly (hydroxyethyl acrylate), 13 and poly(sodium acrylate) 14 for in situ polymerization method; chitosan, 15 epoxy resin, 16,17 poly(dimetylsiloxane), 18,19 poly (ethyl methacrylate), and poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) 20 for solution dispersion; Nylon-6, 21 polypropylene 22 for melt intercalation and polypropylene 23 for supercritical CO 2assisted mixing have been used in the relevant experiments. Nanofibers of sepiolite have proved to yield substantial improvement for the mechanical properties 13,15,16,18,19 and thermal stability 12,15,17,20 of these polymers even at low filler levels.…”

“…XRD patterns of the intercalated kaolinite compounds are given in Fig. except KaoNMF and KaoODA compounds that were characterized in our previous study . When the gallery space of kaolinite is intercalated by DMSO and KAc, the position of the 001 peak changes from 2 θ = 12.4° to about 7.9°.…”

“…The Hansen’s solubility parameters of PMMA, PBMA, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, and liquid paraffin are 22.6, 20.1, 18.15, 20.2, and 16.6 J 0.5 cm –1.5 , respectively. The solubility parameter of PBMA was closer to the solubility parameters of the three solvents; thus, under the same reaction conditions, the PBMA cryogel had a higher absorption capacity.…”
