Thesis writing has been considered one of the difficult stages of being an undergraduate student. However, no studies were found concerning the challenges of undergraduate students in the context of Local Colleges and Universities (LCUs) in the Philippines. This sequential explanatory study aimed to explore the challenges and barriers to students completing their undergraduate thesis. Participants from the study are samples of students pursuing a Bachelor of Physical Education degree at City College of Angeles, Philippines, who were finished writing and defending their manuscripts. For the quantitative phase, after obtaining data from 116 students via an online survey (Nmale=59, Nfemale=57), the findings unraveled that students have faced a moderate level of challenge concerning infrastructure, communication, and time management. On the one hand, after obtaining data from students via an Informal Interview Guide and performing Manual Qualitative analysis, there are three themes, and six sub-themes emerged: (1) Internet connectivity challenges and communication (connectivity issues and inadequacy of scientific resources, and communication with thesis groupmates), (2) Data gathering impediments (recruitment of the participants and rejection from the participants), and (3) Time Management issues (drawbacks of working students and thesis writing contrasted with other academic course works). Based on the findings, practical implications addressing these challenges and barriers are presented in this paper. Finally, the limitations of this study and future research directions were also exhibited.

This research presents a chatbot application to provide educational information for university students. There are three objectives: 1) to study the problem of providing information to university students with chatbots, 2) to develop a model and construct a chatbot to predict the interest of university students, and 3) to assess the satisfaction of the information provided by the chatbot application. The research datasets were the conversations from the Messenger Facebook Page of the Faculty of Information Technology, Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University, during the academic year 2020-2021. In total, there were 1,094 transactions used in this research work. Furthermore, data mining and machine learning techniques, including CRISP-DM, Naïve Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbors, and Neural Network, were used as the research tools. The cross-validation and confusion matrix techniques were used to test the model performance. Moreover, a questionnaire was the application satisfaction assessment tool for 30 respondents. As a result, it showed that the developed model provided high-level results, which are 88.73% accuracy and an average of 3.97 for application satisfaction. In the future, the researchers plan to apply the results for the next academic year and expand into other academic programs.

Currently in the world the use of technology is increasing and even more so in the time of Covid-19, when digitization is vital, essentially in education, more technological tools are being used to improve academic performance and learning. The study that was carried out is a review of the scientific literature, 127 articles were collected from the different databases; IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, Scielo, and Scopus. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the systematization used, only 53 have been used, allowing the identification of technologies that improve the academic performance of different students around the world.
