Influence of Coal Feed Size on the Performance of Air Dense Medium Fluidized Bed Separator Used for Coal Beneficiation

Abstract: In gravity separation operation, the probability of a coal particle to appear in the product stream or in the refuse stream is a strong function of its size. Improper selection of feed size may lead to significant reduction in efficiency of the separation unit. Available literature conforms that the separation efficiency of an air dense medium fluidized bed separator, which is a gravity separation operation, decreases with feed coal size, but determination of appropriate feed size range, for efficient operatio… Show more

“…The separation results show that the ash content is reduced from 40 % in feed coal to around 32 %-35.5 % in clean coal product with a 60 %-72 % yield and the separation efficiency E value is 0.12. Mohanta et al (2011Mohanta et al ( , 2012Mohanta et al ( , 2013a had made many efforts to optimize the operational parameters and the feed coal properties in order to achieving an optimum beneficiation performance of an ADMFB separator. It was pointed out that when the feed coal size is below 15 mm, the size effect on sharpness in separation becomes significant and the E values decrease faster.…”

“…According to the distribution of thermal coal in China, the focus of washing and processing of thermal coal is bound to shift to the west and north regions. While wet coal cleaning process becomes less realistic in the western arid northern regions due to less water, and dry cleaning technique has been widely promoted and applied due to water less, simple process and eliminating the need for water and follow-up of complex slime water treatment process in the wet coal preparation, which reduces costs, reduces sewage discharge, and protects the environment in recent years [1].…”

“…17 The influence of feed size was studied, −50+15 mm is the efficiency feed size range. 18 This technique offers the coal preparation engineer an effective and straightforward method for determining the optimum cut points of separation for different coals to achieve maximum economic gain. 19 Different consumers have different needs, and a method is presented to determine the optimum operating parameters and to predict the economic feasibility in different situations.…”
