“…MDA is one of the main products of lipid oxidation and it has been widely used as an index of lipid peroxidation (Suttnar et al, 2001). The current investigation showed a relation between osteoporosis and ROS generation, since the OVX rats showed a significant elevation of MDA level and significant decrease of GPx, SOD and TAC activities.…”

“…Briefly, reaction mixtures for derivatization were prepared by adding 150 L of 0.44 M phosphoric acid, 5 L of 50 mM EDTA, 5 L of 2% butylated hydroxytoluene in ethanol, 10 -25 L of sample or standard (1,1,3,3-tetraethoxypropane), and 40% ethanol to a total volume of 185 L. For experiments in which r-Hu-Lf, desferrioxamine, and ferrous sulfate were added to formula or human milk, samples were incubated for 1 h at room temperature. Disodium EDTA and butylated hydroxytoluene were added to reaction mixtures to prevent artifactual formation of MDA during the derivatization procedure (22). After a 10-min room temperature incubation, 50 L of 0.6% thiobarbituric acid was added to form the thiobarbituric acid-MDA analyte (TBA 2 MDA).…”
