Cooperative and connected autonomous vehicles (CCAVs) are considered to be a promising solution for addressing congestion and other operational deficiencies, as part of a holistic future mobility management framework. As a result, a significant number of studies have recently been published on this topic. From the perspective of future mobility management, this review paper discusses three themes, which are traffic management, network performance, and mobility management, including congestion, and incident detection using the PRISMA methodology. Three databases were considered for this study, and peer-reviewed primary studies were selected that were published within the last 10 years in the English language, focusing on CCAV in the context of the future transportation and mobility management perspective. For synthesis and interpretation, like-for-like comparisons were made among studies; it was found that extensive research-supported information is required to ensure a smooth transition from conventional vehicles to the CCAVs regime, to achieve the projected traffic and environmental benefits. Research investigations are ongoing to optimize these benefits and associated goals via the setting of different models and simulations. The tools and technologies for the testing and simulation of CCAV were found to have limited capacity. Following the review of the current state-of-the-art, recommendations for future research have been discussed. The most notable is the need for large-scale simulations to understand the impact of CCAVs beyond corridor-based and small-scale networks, the need for understanding the interactions between the drivers of CCAVs and traffic management centers, and the need to assess the technological transition, as far as infrastructure systems are concerned, that is necessary for the progressive penetration of CCAVs into traffic streams.

Signal optimisation is essential in tra c engineering. The tra c light control timings should be set as optimum. However, it is challenging because the tra c network is a non-polynomial problem. In this study, the problem is evaluated from a unique perspective. The primary idea is to remove the crossings of the intersections. A Hamiltonian cycle algorithm has been used to design the network. So, vehicles are only able to join or split. Thus, no control mechanism is needed that delays or interrupts the ow. The suggested algorithm and intersection design were tested on Allsop and Charlesworth's widely used sample network. Findings were compared with the literature in the form of delay calculated using the Highway Capacity Manual 2010 formula. The suggested network's delay is calculated to be 98.17% and 95.45% less than the original network and recently published study-based delay, respectively. As a result, Hamiltonian roads seem sustainable in time and fuel consumption and could be used for future designs.

Multileg roundabout intersections are widely used in urban areas worldwide. However, its traffic organization and signal control are very complicated in the case of large traffic flow, and the signal optimization methods for conventional intersections are not suitable for applying directly to roundabouts due to the complexity of the operating process. Therefore, many scholars have focused on dedicated signal timing schemes for roundabouts, especially through tuning key parameters such as signal cycle and green light time. However, research and applications regarding variable phases at roundabouts are quite rare. To address this gap, this paper analyzes the traffic flow characteristics and capacity of multileg roundabouts and proposed a combined phase design model to achieve the maximum utilization of road capacity at roundabouts, which can generate the optimal phase scheme based on real-time traffic data. The feasibility of the combined phase design model is verified by a case study in Jinhua, China. The results indicate that the proposed combined phase design model can improve the applicability of actuated signal control and the reasonableness of signal timing for multileg roundabouts and thus further improve the roundabout efficiency.
