Influence of blend composition and organic cloisite 15A content in the structure of isobutylene–isoprene rubber/ethylene propylene diene monomer composites for investigation of morphology and mechanical properties

Abstract: A melt mixing method was used for preparation of immiscible isobutylene–isoprene rubber/ethylene propylene diene monomer blends and their polymer nanocomposites containing cloisite 15A nanoparticles. The morphology of nanocomposites was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope techniques. The dispersion of nanoclay in isobutylene–isoprene rubber/ethylene propylene diene monomer blends was studied by transmission electron microscopy and XRD analyses. Curing data … Show more

“…By dynamic curing, the properties of the finished product are greatly improved. [11][12][13][14] Despite all these interpretations, the PA6/chloroprene rubber (CR) blend, including nanocomposite hybrid rubber, are incompatible and immiscible. For this reason, a compatibilizers is used for the process of compatibility in blends to obtain the desired mechanical properties.…”

“…The properties of the materials undergoing the dynamic curing process are very different from those of similar noncured mixtures. By dynamic curing, the properties of the finished product are greatly improved 11–14 . Despite all these interpretations, the PA6/chloroprene rubber (CR) blend, including nanocomposite hybrid rubber, are incompatible and immiscible.…”

“…In fact, XNBR-g-GMA compatibilizer and graphene as reinforcing agent not only improve the mechanical properties of nanocomposites, but also accelerate the curing process. 24 The reaction of sulfur results in an increase in the rate of curing reaction of the rubbers. The possible reaction of epoxide functional groups present in the XNBR-g-GMA compatibilizer and carboxyl groups present in XNBR and also p-p interaction of the C]C functional groups of CR and the graphene C]C groups can facilitate cross-linking reactions (Fig.…”
