“…The analgesic effect of some antidepressants and their potentiation of morphine-induced analgesia has been shown previously and proposed to be related to activation of the endogenous opioid system, which may also be mediated by serotonin (Sacerdote et al 1987;Ventafridda et al 1990). In agreement with the results obtained by Moreno-Brea et al (1995), our results show that the opioid receptor antagonist, naloxone, reduced the antinociceptive effect induced by imipramine plus morphine or slightly that of imipramine in the second phase of the test, indicating that the imipramine response may be associated with an opioid receptor mechanism. However, Sierralta et al (1995) reported that the opioid antagonist is not able to inhibit the imipramine response.…”
