Influence of anionic surfactants on the sensitisation of the fluorimetric determination of fenproporex

Abstract: The effect of the addition of anionic surfactants on the fluorescence of fenproporex has been studied. A micellar enhancement factor of 2.6 was found in the presence of 0.5% of sodium dodecyl sulphate, which provides a detection limit in the fluorimetric determination of this amphetamine of 0.8 p.p.m. The fact that no significant increase in the molar absorptivity at 260 nm was obtained indicates that the fluorescence enhancement is due to an improvement of the fenproporex quantum yield in the environment of t… Show more

“…A Brookfield LVF model rotational viscosimeter has been employed and al1 the measurements have been carried out with a cylindricai cell9 cm long and 3-5 cm in diameter, with a spindle # 1 at speeds of 30 and 60rpm. 17 The fluorescence spectra of the benzodiazepines, in the different micellar media studied and in their absence, have been registered with a Shimadzu RF-520 spectrofluorometer equipped with a xenon lamp, a U-135s recorder and lcm quartz cells. The MEF values of the benzodiazepines in micellar media have been determined according to the experimental procedure proposed in Reference 22.…”

“…'~~'~ Viscosity measurements can also be used. 17 To relate these magnitudes to the condensation degree, simple mathematical models are proposed (linear, semilogarithmic or double logarithmic regressions). However, with these models the problem arises that small variations in the hydrophobic moiety composition make the use of different empirical laws necessary.…”
