Influence of Ammonia Solution on Zinc Oxide Nanostructures by Hydrothermal Growth

Abstract: In previous work, ZnO nanorods and nanoflowers were synthesized on indium-tin-oxide (ITO) substrates by hydrothermal growth at low temperature ,using the different concentrations of equimolar (1:1) zinc nitrate Zn (NO3)26H2O and methenamine (C6H12N4) mixed as precursors solution, and adding ammonia solution to control the pH levels. In this paper, for comparison, the same experiment without ammonia solution was also discussed. SEM, XRD were utilized to characterize morphologies and crystal structures of ZnO. I… Show more

“…The PEI content was fixed to be 0.37 g on 100 ml of the growth solution. The results, presented in figure 2, confirmed that increasing pH of the growth solution causes nanowires to be smaller in diameter which corresponds to the results reported before [2,24,31]. However obtained nanostructures grew in different pH and temperature ranges than reported previously in literature [24,25].…”

“…In the end a new and stable protocol of synthesis of ZnO nanostructures has been established. Those results contrast and expand upon other works [24,25]. Furthermore, ZnO NWs were doped with copper [15,26,27] and its effect on the functional properties of ZnO NWs have been discussed.…”

“…ZnO (egg noodle and 2D plate-like) structures were obtained by sodium citrate and urea. [22][23][24] NaOH is the most popular base since NaOH is easily ionized to Na + and OH À in an aqueous solution and increases the solubility of Zn(OH) 2 related to the formation [Zn(OH 4 )] 2À complex leading to a high yield of ZnO product. 21,25 Aer all, dening the correlation between the morphology and photocatalytic behavior of catalysts remains a challenge.…”
