Influence of Age on Some Blood Parameters of Lambs in Organic Production

Abstract: The influence of age on changes of some blood parameters has been researched within the blood serum of lambs during the suckling (30 th day) and fattening period (70 th day). Lambs were raised in the organic way. Significantly decreased concentration of calcium (2.78 and 2.67 mmol/l), inorganic phosphorus (3.53 and 3.10 mmol/l), triglyceride (0.43 and 0.28 mmol/l), total cholesterol (1.67 and 1.04 mmol/l), HDL and LDL-cholesterol (1.10 and 0.73 mmol/l; 0.37 and 0.19 mmol/l) as well as increased concentration o… Show more

“…It was also the case of goat race (Al-Bulushi et al, 2017). It has been reported that other causal factors of the hematological and biochemical variation were age (Alonso et al, 1997;Antunović et al, 2012;Bórnez et al, 2009), physiological condition (Antunovic et al, 2011), pregnancy status, post-partum period, lactation period and dry period (Piccione et al, 2009), and also sex (Bhat et al, 2014).…”

“…The number of hematocrits, hemoglobin, leukocytes, and erythrocytes increased significantly with the lambs' age, which agrees with the result of this study. There is improvement in total leukocyte, hemoglobin, and hematocrit values at the weaning age compared to the neonatal period (Antunović et al 2012).…”

“…Fodder provided to animals, especially during pregnancy, plays an important role in regulating metabolic activities, physiology, and hormonal balance in the animal, which contributes greatly to the completion of the pregnancy stage and the process of parturition naturally agree with [22] who emphasized that the physiological status of the animal is one of the important factors which affects the concentrations of blood indicators that are involved in the development of blood metabolic profiles which are used in assessing nutritional status and animal health, and agree with [21] which underlined that the maintenance of normal health and sustaining efficient production of livestock, it is necessary to ensure adequate dietary intake of essential nutrients.…”
