Influence of Adhesive Strength, Fatigue Strength and Contact Mechanics on the Drilling Performance of Diamond Coating

Abstract: Adhesive strength of the coating significantly affects the lifetime of the coating. However, it is still inevitable for the coating, even with strong adhesive strength, to peel off from the substrate after working for a while. In this work, fatigue and wear behaviors were employed to analyze the effect on the mechanics of coating and contribute to a fundamental understanding of peeling of the coating. A small-size Co-cemented tungsten carbide drill bit was selected as the examined substrate to fabricate the di… Show more

“…Figure 8 shows the Raman spectra of the MCD coatings with and without GO particles. Only one peak (1332 cm −1 ), which was assigned to diamond phase [21], was found in all the Raman curves of MCD coatings with and without GO particles. Raman spectra indicated the little residual compressive stress in the MCD coating with GO particles, since its main Raman band located at ~1332 cm −1 [22].…”

“…In the tool industry, sintered WC-Co is one of the most critical materials. They are applied to construct such tools as milling machines, burrs, and multi-blade cutting plates [ 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Sintered WC-Co is commonly used in the mining and construction industry [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 18 ], as well as agriculture [ 19 ].…”
