After a COVID-19 outbreak in the Falles festival of Borriana (Spain) during March 2020, a cohort of patients were followed until October 2020 to estimate complications post-COVID-19, considering ABO blood groups (ABO). From 536 laboratory-confirmed cases, 483 completed the study (90.1%) carried by the Public Health Center of Castelló and the Emergency and Microbiology and Clinical Analysis of Hospital de la Plana Vila-real. The study included ABO determination and telephone interviews of patients. The participants had a mean age of 37.2 ± 17.1 years, 300 females (62.1%). ABO were O (41.4%), A (45.5%), B (9.1%), and AB (3.9%). We found no difference in the incidence of COVID-19 infections. A total of 159 (32.9%) patients reported one or more post-COVID-19 complications with divergent incidences after adjustment: O (32.3%), A (32.6%), B (54.1%), and AB (27.6%); B groups had more complications post-COVID-19 when compared with O group (adjusted relative risk [aRR] 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.68, 95% CI 1.24–2.27), and symptoms of fatigue (1.79, 95% CI 1.08–2.95), myalgia (2.06, 95% CI 1.10–3.84), headache (2.61, 95% CI 1.58–4.31), and disorder of vision (4.26 95% CI 1.33–13.60). In conclusion, we observed significant differences in post-COVID-19 complications by ABO, with a higher incidence in B group. Additional research is justified to confirm our results.

The present study investigates whether a relationship exists between the ABO and Rh blood groups and the type of rheumatic disease in patients with inflammatory rheumatic disease. Method: The present study was based on the data of 1,272 healthy subjects and 1,028 patients with an inflammatory rheumatic disease who were followed up in our clinic between June 2016 and January 2019. The type of rheumatic disease and the ABO and Rh blood groups of the participants were recorded. Results: The A blood group was more prevalent in patients with inflammatory rheumatic disease and in the healthy subjects, followed by the O, B, and AB blood groups in respective order, although there was no significant difference between the ABO groups in terms of distribution(p>0.05). The Rh (+) blood group was more prevalent than Rh (-) in both groups, although there was a statistically significant difference in terms of the distribution of the Rh blood group among the groups(p<0.05). According to the results of logistic regression analysis, the Rh (-) blood type decreases the likelihood of developing a rheumatic disease (p<0.05). Conclusions: The A and Rh (+) blood groups were more commonly observed in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases, followed by the O, B, and AB blood groups. Furthermore, patients with the Rh (-) blood type were less likely to develop rheumatic disease. The present study may serve as a guide for future clinical studies evaluating the relationship between rheumatic diseases and blood types in terms of genetic predisposition and pathogenesis.

Pilot Analysis of Genetic Effects on Personality Test Scores with AI: ABO Blood Type in Japan

It is estimated that genetic factors are responsible for approximately 30-60% of an individual's personality. However, statistical analyses have yet to demonstrate a significant and consistent relationship between personality tests and genetic factors. Conversely, a significant portion of individuals in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan believe that there is a linkage between ABO blood type, which is determined genetically, and personality. This pilot study analyzed data from a large-scale survey (N=2,887) using a combination of traditional statistical methods and AI to examine this relationship. The results indicated the relationship between ABO blood type and self-reported personality traits on several single-question items, in accordance with expected outcomes. These findings suggest that this relationship may extend beyond ABO blood type and personality to encompass other inherited characteristics. The influence of the level of interest on personality was also discussed.
