Influence Mechanism of High-Tech Industrial Agglomeration on Green Innovation Performance: Evidence from China

Abstract: This paper uses panel data from 30 provinces and cities in China between 2008 and 2017. It calculates the green innovation performance of each province and city based on the super-efficiency SBM model of unexpected output and measures the high-tech industrial agglomeration degree of each province and city by using the location entropy method. The influence of high-tech industrial agglomeration on green innovation is also empirically tested. It is found that the agglomeration level of high-tech industry and gre… Show more

“…Additionally, the estimated coefficients of Pilot * Time are all smaller than the corresponding basic regression coefficients, indicating that human capital plays a partial intermediary role in how the NEEC promotes GI level. This conclusion is consistent with Yang et al [45]. This may be due to the fact that the areas with human capital agglomeration have a stronger knowledge and technical foundation of GI, thus promoting its development.…”

“…This situation arises because industrial agglomeration requires large amounts of capital, land, and human resources, and it is di cult for individual cities to provide enough resources to support the formation of local industrial agglomeration on a large scale (Guo & Yuan, 2022). Secondly, industrial agglomeration policies in China are often issued at the provincial level, and there may be insu cient support for industrial agglomeration policies at the municipal level, which further reduces the generation of municipal industrial agglomeration behavior (Wang & Hao, 2022). In summary, we nally selected the entropy of industrial agglomeration location at the provincial level as an indicator to measure the degree of industrial agglomeration.…”

“…Previous research on the effects of industrial agglomeration and IC on pollution (Yang et al 2021 ; Zhuang et al 2021 ), labor productivity (Ushifusa and Tomohara 2013 ; Yang 2016 ), innovation ability (Guo et al 2023 ; Yang et al 2022b ), and green economic performance (Xu and Yang 2019 ; Yuan et al 2020 ) have been conducted. However, there is no consensus on the impact of industrial agglomeration and IC on the local economy and ecological environment.…”

“…However, China’s economic growth has long been characterized by an extensive development model involving high input and low output, resulting in low energy utilization efficiency (Liu et al 2017 ). This has led to undesirable outcomes, including environmental pollution in the form of pollutants such as wastewater and exhaust gases, which have constrained the sustainable development of China’s economy (Yang et al 2022b ). The “2022 Global Environmental Performance Index (EPI) Report” indicates that among 180 participating countries, China is ranked 160th with a score of 28.40, highlighting a significant gap in environmental performance (Environmental Performance Index 2022 ).…”
