“…Here, infants were followed-up from 1 to 6 months, compared to the other two studies in which the infants were in the study from 6 to 12 months ( 22 ) and from 1 to 12 months of age ( 24 ). This observation is in agreement with other studies ( 35 ), and could be explained by several factors, including the fact that infants that may attend day care centers in Spain—a major risk factor for infection in infants ( 36 38 )—are normally older than 6 months of age ( 38 ).…”

“…Attending nursery has been associated with a greater frequency of recurring infections and wheezing, as well as consumption of antibiotics, bronchodilators, and anti-inflammatories. 18,19 The low incidence of infectious diseases in both groups does not seem to be noteworthy. The age at which they began to attend nursery was similar; however, "upon request" consultations due to illness was relatively low in both groups (three to four visits/year) compared to a national morbidity study for the same age group during the same time period (nine to ten visits/year).…”

“…This indicates that TMD, in addition to protecting the defensive system, can promote the establishment of an adequate metabolism [ 26 ]. Infant asthma (RW) in the subgroup that left breastfeeding early had an incidence similar to the national database (15%) [ 27 ]. In this group, the rest of the TMD completion parameters were similar, which makes us suspect that adapted cow’s milk could be closely related to the development of bronchial hyper-reactivity and, therefore, breastfeeding could offer important protection [ 28 , 29 ].…”
