Inertial response characteristics analysis and optimisation of PMSG‐based VSG‐controlled WECS

Abstract: In this study, the inertial response characteristics of the permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind energy conversion system (WECS) with different virtual synchronous generator (VSG) schemes are analysed and compared in detail. It is found that the dynamic coupling between the VSG active power control loop and the other control function, e.g. maximum power point tracking control and direct current bus voltage control, in VSG-controlled WECS (WECS-VSG) is inevitable. The coupling would result… Show more

“…At the same time, it suppresses the negative sequence current component. Besides in [20], a generalized optimal wind energy conversion system with a VSG strategy was suggested, which could improve the frequency support capability. However, the VSG strategy mentioned connects to the power grid through a PWM control, which requires PWM modulation and PI control.…”

“…The improvement in the frequency regulation strategies for PMSG based wind energy conversion systems have been discussed in [16]. Moreover, the control analysis based on inertial response characteristics for grid-tied and standalone PMSG systems has been studied in [17,18]. A diesel-engine driven PMSG-based standalone system has been portrayed in [19].…”
