Inelastic scattering of polarized protons fromHe4at 500 and 800 MeV

Abstract: Inclusive He(p, p') spectra were measured at incident energies T"=500 and 800 MeV over a range of forward scattering angles between 5' and 30'. The first excited 0+, T=O state at 20.1 MeV and the 2, T=O state at 22. 1 MeV appear as distinct structures in the spectra. Angular distributions of diR'erential cross sections o' and analyzing powers A"were extracted for these states and for regions of excitation in the continuum up to 40 MeV. Distorted-wave calculations for inelastic scattering using transition densi… Show more

“…Because dΩ pα for various scattering energies and angles are needed, we adopt the microscopic single folding model [22] with implementing the phenomenological nuclear density of α and the Melbourne N N g-matrix interaction [23]. As shown in Fig 2, with no free parameter, the calculated dσ pα /dΩ pα agrees very well with the experimental data [24,25] at 297 MeV and 500 MeV.…”

“…In the table, tma and charge in the first column are the same in Table I. Modified distributions are tmav1, tmav2, and tmav3, which are obtained by compressing the proton and expanding [18], 300 MeV [19], and 500 MeV [20]. Solid lines are results for tmav1 and dot-dashed lines are the results for tmav2.…”

“…Next we study the elastic scattering observables at 300 and 500 MeV where p+ 4 He data are available for both differential cross sections and vector analyzing powers [31,32]. The eikonal approximation should work better at these high energies.…”

“…From the top, differential cross section (a), vector analyzing power (b), and spin-rotation function (c) are given. Dots are experimental data [31] for 300 MeV and [32] for 500 MeV. Note that the theory at 550 MeV is compared to the experiment at 500 MeV.…”
