Inelastic neutron scattering study of crystalline-electric-field interaction in Ce3Ir4Sn13

Abstract: The Ce3Ir4Sn13 single crystal was grown using Sn-flux method. Inelastic neutron scattering measurements were performed on the Ce3Ir4Sn13 powder sample at T=5.3 and 200K. Two magnetic origin peaks of ΔE1=4.4 and ΔE2=45.9meV in the inelastic neutron scattering spectra were detected as the crystalline-electric-field excitations for Ce3Ir4Sn13. The results of our neutron data are roughly consistent with the calculation by fitting the magnetic susceptibility curve using a simple point-charge model.
