Internet of Things (IoT) has been considered as one of the emerging network and information technologies that can comprehend automatic monitoring, identification, and management through a network of smart IoT devices. The effective use of IoT in different areas has improved efficiency and reduced errors. The rapid growth of smart devices such as actuators, sensors, and wearable devices has made the IoT enable for smart and sustainable developments in the area. Physical objects are interlinked with these smart devices for the progression to analyse, process, and manage the surroundings data. Such data can then be further utilised for smarter decisions and postanalysis for different purposes. However, with the limited IoT resources, the management of data is difficult due to the restrictions of transmission power place and energy consumption, and the processing can put pressure on these smart devices. The network of IoT is connected with big data through Internet for manipulating and storing huge bulk of data on cloud storage. The secure framework based on big data through IoT is the awful need of modern society which can be energy efficient in a sustainable environment. Due to the intrinsic characteristics of sensors nodes in the IoT, like data redundancy, constrained energy, computing capabilities, and limited communication range, the issues of data loss are becoming among the main issues which mostly depend on the completeness of data. Various approaches are in practice for the recovery problem of data, such as spatiotemporal correlation and interpolation. These are used for data correlation and characteristics of sensory data. Extracting correlation data became difficult specifically as the coupling degree between diverse perceptual attributes is low. The current study has presented a comprehensive overview on big data and its V’s with Internet of Things to describe the research into the area with in-depth review of existing literature.

The vigorous development of the Industrial Internet of Things brings the advanced connection function of the new generation of industrial automation and control systems. The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) network is converted into an open and highly interconnected network, where the equipment connections between industrial electronic devices are integrated with a SCADA system through a Modbus protocol. As SCADA and Modbus are easily used for control and monitoring, the interconnection and operational efficiency between systems are highly improved; however, such connectivity inevitably exposes the system to the open network environment. There are many network security threats and vulnerabilities in a SCADA network system. Especially in the era of the Industrial Internet of Things, any security vulnerability of an industrial system may cause serious property losses. Therefore, this paper proposes an encryption and verification mechanism based on the trusted token authentication service and Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol to prevent attackers from physical attacks. Experimentally, this paper deployed and verified the system in an actual field of energy management system. According to the experimental results, the security defense architecture proposed in this paper can effectively improve security and is compatible with the actual field system.

The proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) caused new application needs to emerge as rapid response ability is missing in the current IoT end-devices. Therefore, Fog Computing has been proposed to be an edge component for the IoT networks as a remedy to this problem. In recent times, cyber-attacks are on the rise, especially towards infrastructure-less networks, such as IoT. Many botnet attack variants (Mirai, Torii, etc.) have shown that the tiny microdevices at the lower spectrum of the network are becoming a valued participant of a botnet, for further executing more sophisticated attacks against infrastructural networks. As such, the fog devices also need to be secured against cyber-attacks, not only software-wise, but also from hardware alterations and manipulations. Hence, this article first highlights the importance and benefits of fog computing for IoT networks, then investigates the means of providing hardware security to these devices with an enriched literature review, including but not limited to Hardware Security Module, Physically Unclonable Function, System on a Chip, and Tamper Resistant Memory.
