“…Early attempts to find a vaccine showed promising results when rainbow trout was inoculated with a live low-virulence variant of L. salmonae (SV strain), which demonstrated a substantial lowering of the intensity of the parasite infection [96]. It has been demonstrated that by using an inactivated spore-based spore vaccine, the beginning of resistance in rainbow trout occurs approximately 3 weeks after exposure and 3 weeks later there is a complete resistance, as observed by a reduction in the xenoma intensity [97]. The best protection was observed when fish received a dose between 10 3 and 10 5 of frozen spores of the L. salmonae SV strain intraperitoneally.…”
