Induction, subculture cycle, and regeneration of callus in Safed musli (Chlorophytum borivilianum) using different types of phytohormones

Abstract: Background:Chlorophytum borivilianum is an industrially valued medicinal crop. Propagation through seeds is not feasible because of low germination percentage and long dormancy period. Therefore, callus culture and plant regeneration can be an alternative to improve this crop production. Also, callus can serve as an alternative source of bioactive compounds. Objective:To evaluate the effect of different phytohormones on callus induction, subculture cycle, and regeneration studies of callus in C. borivilianum.Ma… Show more

“…This factor becomes crucial to assess the genetical stability of in vitro-cultured plants, making their valorization easier. Moreover, long-term subcultures constitute an efficient strategy to improve interesting phenomena under in vitro conditions, such as rooting (Mendonça et al, 2019;Wang and Yao, 2020), plant regeneration (Konar et al, 2019) and callus induction (Nakasha et al, 2016), very useful for biotechnological production of by-products from medicinal plants.…”

“…Callus growth was better exhibited on MS media having 5 mg/l 2, 4-D. Differentiation of callus into shoots was noted on MS media with BAP or kinetin, whereas TDZ was unable to regrow any shoots. The rooted plantlets were effectively acclimatized and grown in soil resulting in 88.3% survivability (Nakasha et al, 2016). Mun and Mun (2016) reported an efficient clonal mass growth of Rheum coreanum Nakai, a rare herb in Korea using rhizome in vitro culture.…”

“…і лікарських [20], застосовується як для оптимізації біотехнологій мікроклонального розмноження цінних видів рослин, так і з використанням калюсних культур, культури пиляків тощо для біотехнологічного забезпечення селекційного процесу [21,22]. Утім дослідники наголошують на диференційованій генотиповій реакції за рахунок внутрішньовидової спадкової мінливості на варіювання як фітогормонального складу живильних середовищ, так і взагалі умов культивування [23,24].…”
