“…Injection of GnRHa induced ovulation in yellow catfish but the ovulation ratio was clearly lower than that in CPE‐treated fish and the groups that received GnRHa+DOM, and the OI in GnRHa groups was also low. These results showed that the inhibitory effect of DA on GtH secretion in yellow catfish is less predominant than in some cyprinids such as common carp (Drori et al 1994; Dorafshan, Mostafavi & Amiri 2003; Arabaci et al 2004), nase (Szabó et al 2002) and pearl mullet (Arabaci & Sari 2004). The DA inhibitory tone on GtH release differs among fish species and has been decisively demonstrated in some catfish such as the Indian catfish H. fossilis (Alok, Talwar & Garg 2000) and the African catfish Clarias gariepinus (Mylonas & Zohar 2001) but appears to be absent or weak in most salmonids such as coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch (Van Der Kraak, Donaldson & Chang 1986) and commercially important marine fish (Mylonas & Zohar 2001).…”

“…Induction of ovulation in fish using GnRHa, together with a DA antagonist, such as metoclopramide, domperidone (DOM) and pimozide, is known as the Linpe method (Peter et al 1988). The success of using GnRHa alone or in combination with a DA antagonist for the control of fish reproduction has been described in several species such as common carp ( Cyprinus carpio ) (Drori, Ofir, Sivan & Yaron 1994; Yaron 1995; Kulikovsky, Martin & Yaron 1996; Arabaci, Cagirgan & Sari 2004), catfish ( Heteropneustes fossilis ) (Alok, Krishnan, Talwar & Grag 1993), Indian major carps such as rohu ( Labeo rohita ) and mrigal ( Cirrhinus mrigala ) (Halder, Sen, Bhattacharaya, Ray, Ghosh & Jhingran 1991), nase ( Chondrostoma nasus ) (Szabó, Medgyasszay & Horváth 2002), pearl mullet ( Chalcalburnus tarichi ) (Arabaci & Sari 2004), rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) (Billard, Reinaud, Hollebecq & Breton 1984; Breton, Weil, Sambroni & Zohar 1990), lake trout ( Salvelinus namaycush ) (Erdahl & McClain 1987), sockeye salmon ( Oncorhynchus nerka ) (Slater, Schreck & Amend 1995), Kutum ( Rutilus frisii kutum ) (Dorafshan & Heyrati 2006; Heyrati et al 2007) and sterlet ( Acipenser ruthenus ) (Rónyai 2009). Currently, the hormones mostly used in P. fulvidraco ovulation are CPE, HCG and GnRHa (Peng & Hu 2003; Bian 2007), but little has been reported on using GnRHa together with a DA antagonist in this fish.…”

“…Under culture conditions, female sturgeon, H. huso usually fail to reach sexual maturity, a situation that is characterized by ovarian maturity being arrested at the previtellogenic stage (Moberg, Doroshov, Chapman, Kroll, Van Eenennaam & Watson ). To ameliorate this problem and to induce or accelerate spawning, a variety of approaches have been developed, most of which involve the artificial manipulation of the endocrine system with exogenous hormones (Arabaci & Sari ; Kaminski, Kusznierz, Myszkowski & Wolnicki ).…”

“…Many springs and freshwater rivers flow into this lake. Its high carbonate content makes it extremely alkaline, with a pH = 9,8 that is unsuitable for many fresh water species with exception of a fish locally known as "Inci Kefali" or Pearl Mullet, Chalcalburnus tarichi, a member of the cyprinidae family (Arabaci and Sari 2004).…”
