Induction Chemotherapy Followed by either Chemoradiotherapy or Bioradiotherapy in Laryngeal Cancer

Abstract: Objective: In loco regionally advanced head and neck cancer, the superiority of concomitant cetuximab with radiation over radiation alone has been proven previously. But comparison between chemo radiation and bioradiation has not been well studied. Methods: Between October 2013 and August 2017, 38 patients with locoregionally advanced laryngeal cancer and more than 50% response to 3 cycles of induction chemotherapy (docetaxel and cisplatin: both with a dose of 75 mg/m … Show more

“…The present study explored that Squamous Cell Carcinoma of tongue was found highly prevalent among males (52.6%) as compared to females (3.6%) which was 31.8% of the total sample which was different from the findings of the study conducted by Anwer et al, (2018) who reported 16.6% prevalence of Squamous Cell Carcinoma of tongue. The results of present study also slightly differs from the study conducted in Iran which concluded 35% prevalence of squamous cell carcinoma of tongue reported by (Larizadeh, Damghani, and Shabani, 2014). Among females, Squamous Cell Carcinoma of soft palate was found highest (39.3%) as compared to males.…”

“…The treatment should not only consider the therapeutic effect but also maximize the protection of organ function. Induction therapy is a viable treatment for patients in whom surgery is not suitable or who have a greater need for organ preservation, as it shrinks the volume of tumors and eliminates micro-metastases [ 3 5 ]. The classic TPF regimen (docetaxel, cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil) is a standard induction chemotherapy regimen, but the toxicity problem is the biggest limitation for patients choosing to use this regimen.…”

“…Cetuximab has been investigated both in the induction phase and concomitant phase (bioradiation) of non-surgical approaches. 8,9 To the best of our knowledge, the results of non-surgical treatment in hypopharyngeal cancer are rarely reported. No study has been conducted on hypopharyngeal cancer in the southeast of Iran.…”
