Induced affine inflation

Abstract: Induced gravity, metrical gravity in which gravitational constant arises from vacuum expectation value of a heavy scalar, is known to suffer from Jordan frame vs. Einstein frame ambiguity, especially in inflationary dynamics. Induced gravity in affine geometry, as we show here, leads to an emergent metric and gravity scale, with no Einstein-Jordan ambiguity. While gravity is induced by the vacuum expectation value of the scalar field, nonzero vacuum energy facilitates generation of the metric. Our analysis sho… Show more

“…The latter property may not be imposed from the scratch. In fact, it has been shown that matter fields may not require the metric tensor to couple to curvature of spacetime [11,12,14]. It turned out that the metric tensor is generated dynamically from an affine variational principles.…”

“…Thus, we begin with a very simple spacetime which does not recognize a metrical structure where angles and distances measurements take place. However, different events in different points are studied and compared only through parallel displacements of vectors and tensors [11][12][13]. To that end, this spacetime arena is endowed with only an affine connection Γ and its associated curvature.…”

“…By considering the inflaton as the Higgs, one could also consider the Palatini formalism of Higgs inflation [55][56][57]. There are also approaches to consider inflation with a purely an affine approach [58,59].…”
