Indoor positioning based on statistical multipath channel modeling

Abstract: In order to estimate the location of an indoor mobile station (MS), estimated time-of-arrival (TOA) can be obtained at each of several access points (APs). These TOA estimates can then be used to solve for the location of the MS. Alternatively, it is possible to estimate the location of the MS directly by incorporating the received signals at all APs in a direct estimator of position. This article presents a deeper analysis of a previously proposed maximum likelihood (ML)-TOA estimator, including a uniqueness … Show more

“…Particularly, terminals maybe cannot receive GPS signals in indoor environment due to the weak received signal and multipath reflection. As LTE networks are being deployed around the world, location technologies with LTE networks need to be studied further, which could enhance user location services in all different environments [1][2][3].…”

“…With apparent advantages of the several GHz license-free spectrums, 10W maximum transmit power, Impulse radio (IR) 60GHz wireless communication technology has become the first choice for Gbps level short-range positioning technologies for indoor environment [1,2]. The duration of the pulse signal usually lasts hundreds of picoseconds or less, thus the multipath signal can be separated at the end of receiving effectively, leading to a higher time and multipath resolution.…”
