Indoor Air Quality in Multi-Apartment Buildings before and after Renovation

Abstract: The article summarizes the IAQ parameters of multi-apartment buildings before and after renovation in Latvia. In a building with natural ventilation system air exchange is significantly dependent on the position of the apartment within the building. If CO2 as an indicator of indoor air quality is analyzed, the results show that inhabitants' behavior has a considerable impact on IAQ. The planning of adequate investment in buildings to improve energy efficiency and choosing the modern, adequate and effective eng… Show more

“…The average relative humidity indoors decreases, when the outdoor air temperature is decreasing, because of the reduced absolute moisture content of ventilation supply air. Cold climate conditions in rooms with adequate ventilation to ensure CO2 levels up to 1000ppm, characterized by the relative humidity indoors, on average, less than 30% [16].…”

“…The field survey was conducted for 20 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units where residents did renovation in the previous 6 month at The Greens in Dubai [54]. In addition to on-site measurement, resident interviews and observations were also conducted [55]. The main purpose of this study is to understand the actual status, and no factors (area or number of families) were considered other than the scope of 'apartments that have been renovated within last 6 month' when selecting the survey subjects [56,57].…”

“…When looking at Latvian official statistical 2 data regarding new and reconstructed residential buildings [9], [10] during the period of 2010 to 2021 (Table 1), one can conclude that only 5.5 % new buildings were built and 3.2 % were reconstructed from the total area of residential buildings during this period. One-dwelling buildings dominate among new buildings (9.1 %) and shared houses for different social groups among reconstructed ones (20.4 %).…”
